Aim of the Golf Club.

The aim of the club is an essential part of good golf.

If you do not aim the club correctly towards the target when preparing to hit the ball you have little to no chance of striking the ball in your desired direction.

It is one of the easiest set-up points however it is the most neglected, people tend to want to think of what their body and arms are doing in the swing, which is important, however aim is vital to the success of a shot.

For example if Tiger woods constantly aimed the club left or right of the target he wouldn't be the Worlds number 1, he may not even be a professional golfer.

How to aim the club correctly.

Stand directly behind making sure your ball is exactly between your body and target

Pick a point just in front of the ball (a couple of feet) and approach the ball keeping your eyes firmly fixed on your chosen point, DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR MAIN TARGET!!!!!!!

From an open stance (feet pointing left) aim the club face at your chosen spot, with only one hand on the club (it may be a clump of grass or a twig, anything that catches your eye).

Build your stance square to the club face (parallel to your target line) and put your other hand on the club and take your hold/grip.

Once you are settled in your set-up position check that your aim is correct by lifting the club up in the air using you hands and arms and stare at the leading edge of the club, (the bottom line) the leading edge should be perfectly vertical to the ground.

Place the club back down behind the ball taking care to not twist the club face as you do this.

Look at the main target.

This drill will ensure that you have every chance of returning the clubface square to the target at impact. Note how you only look at the main target (it may be the green or the fairway) last, this is vital, keep your eyes firmly fixed at your chosen point a couple of feet in front of the ball and you will have achieved the correct aim of the club.
